Common Name
Iris 'Constant Wattez' (Tall Bearded)
Family Name
Iridaceae
Description
This is a hardy, long living tall bearded iris that requires the minimum of maintenance. It has a thick rhizome that grows along the surface and from which the erect sword like leaves arise. One of the great joys of irises is the flamboyant style of their flowers and their subtle shades and colourings.
This variety has a pale pink colouring. The flowers have six petals; three upright petals (called standards) and three hanging petals (called falls). A fuzzy line or beard runs down the middle of each fall. The second flower display is not as showy as the spring display but last into the fall.
Many re-blooming iris are fragrant. This Iris is drought tolerant. Caution. Harmful if eaten.Propagation
Divide the rhizomes in late summer. Reduce the leaves by half to prevent desiccation and the plant becoming unstable.
Latin Name Explanation
Iris was a Greek messenger who came to earth through a rainbow.
