Masdevallia wurdackii/RHS Gardening
Found in northern Peru in montane, high rainforests at elevations of 2200 to 2400 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte of semiarid regions and plants typically have blackish, erect, slender ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 close, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical obtuse leaf that is cuneate below into the slender petiole that blooms in the spring through fall on a slender, erect, 3 3/5" to 6 3/5" [9 to 17 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on ramicaul with a bract below the middle and a tubular floral bract carrying the flower at leaf height. Should be grown rather drier than many Masdevallias. It differs from the rest by it's huge, widely spread flower that is light yellow green, and is suffused with purple dots, has long tails and is held at leaf height.
