Anguloa brevilabris is a species of orchid native to South America.
It is a large orchid, of terrestrial habit, which prefers the warm climate, with large dark green pseudobulbs, occasionally with thorns after the fall of the leaves and with 4 leaves, oblanceolate. It blooms in the summer in an inflorescence 10-15 cm long with 4-6 flowers, inflated with coating of bracts and bearing very fragrant flowers.
Distribution and habitat
It is found in Colombia and Peru in forests at elevations of 1400 to 2300 meters.
Taxonomy
Anguloa brevilabris was described by Robert Allen Rolfe and published in Orchid Review 23: 292. 1915.
EtymologyAnguloa (abbreviated Ang.): generic name given in honor of "Francisco de Angulo", director of the mines of Peru and an orchid aficionado of the time when Ruiz and Pav. arrived in that country.
brevilabris: Latin epithet meaning "with short labellum".
