GEOGRAPHICAL AREA

Beaupreopsis paniculata is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the Grand Massif Sud of the Grande Terre.

POPULATION

Population size is not known but based on field observations, the species is quite common in the Grand Massif Sud.

HABITAT

Beaupreopsis paniculata occurs in shrubland on ultramafic at an altitudinal range of 30 to 1,580 m asl.

THREATS

This species does not seem threatened although some subpopulations may be potentially impacted by bushfires and mining activities at Camp des sapins and Vulcain

CONSERVATION

Beaupreopsis paniculata is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, Haute Yaté, la Dumbéa, Massif du Kouakoué, Montagne des sources, Mont Humboldt, Mont Mou, Rivière bleue, Vallée de la Thy.

Beaupreopsis is a genus of plant in family Proteaceae, with just one species in the genus, Beaupreopsis paniculata.It is native to New Caledonia on the south of Grand Terre. Its habitat is from open maquis, to mountain area as low scrub, on a substrate of eroded ultramafic rocks.
