Gregg's mortonia prefers the limestone hillsides, thickets and plains near the Rio Grande in Hidalgo and Starr Counties, where it is rare, and Northeast Mexico. Its pubescent stems branch low and stand very erect, bearing small glossy evergreen, crowded linear leaves. Bright white winter and spring flowers enhance and soften the upright stature and contrast nicely with its shiny bright green leaves.
