Solitary cactus, occasionally amacolla. Stem depressed, globose and cylindrical, bluish green, 10-50 cm tall and 10-15 cm in diameter. Usually 8 ribs. Tubercles rounded vertically. Dense spines that conceal the stem and grow at the edges, 3-5 central spines, grey, flattened and somewhat curved backwards, 2,5-3 cm long; 5-7 radial spines, curved but more erect, 2-2,5 cm long. Flowers pink, 5-6 cm long and wide. Fruits covered with a soft white wool, 2,5 cm long.
