Genus Hoya

This is a genus of about 300 tropical plants named by the famous botanist Robert Brown. This genus was named in tribute to the botanist Thomas Hoy. The majority of these plants are evergreen with waxy thick succulent leaves. In addition, they are climbers which climb with the help of adventitious roots. Diversity is another prominent feature of this genus including both epiphytic and terrestrial plants.

Apart from the waxy thick leaves, Hoyas get brightly colored flowers growing on the peduncle tips forming clusters. The thick and waxy foliage and flowers are responsible for different common names associated with the members of this genus. These names include wax vine, waxflower, and wax plant.
