Dischidia oiantha White Diamond식물/들꽃-협죽도과(Apocynaceae) 2022. 4. 24. 11:00
The Dischidia oiantha belongs to the Apocynaceae family and is originally native to the Philippines. It is an epiphyte with oval, succulent leaves and produces small flowers that grow in clusters between the nodes. The species 'White Diamond' is characterized by a white panashing, some leaves are even completely white.
This epiphyte grows well in a hanging planter, but if given sphagnum or cork bark for climbing, it would embed its aerial roots and settle on the substrate. In their native environment, Dischidia form dense masses as they climb and crawl along tree barks.
Location: The Dischidia grows in its natural environment in filtered sunlight, in the house a window facing east or west is recommended. It is important that the plant can see the sky in order to thrive.
Pour: Allow to dry before watering.
Substrate: A chunky, well-draining mixture of coconut fiber, perlite or vermiculite, orchid bark, peat moss and worm humus is ideal. A simple blend of coconut fiber and sphagnum moss works just as well.
Temperature: The temperature should not drop below 12°C.
Humidity: Tichidia prefer a higher humidity, between 60-80%. You can increase the humidity by placing the plant on an irrigated silica shell or using a humidifier.
Virulence: Dischidia is not considered poisonous, but if swallowed, it can lead to vomiting of pets or children. Therefore, the plant should better be out of reach.
