Rosa caesia

Rosa caesia is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Rosaceae.

It is native to Europe to Caucasus.

Together with Rosa canina sensu stricto, this is a member of the Rosa canina aggregate, known collectively as dog roses. It differs from R. canina sens. strict. by having pronounced wine-red colouring on the stems, a pink flower, and the styles forming a woolly mass completely covering the disk (top) of the hip. It is probably fairly frequent in Northern Ireland, but not as common as its hybrid with R. canina, which is called R. x dumalis.

Because of the difficulty in distinguishing this species from R. canina and R. x dumalis the distribution map can only be taken as a rough guide to its distribution.
