Perovskia atriplicifolia ‘Silvery Blue’

Silvery Blue is a Perovskia (blue Spirea) with silver leaves and a very strong plant construction. Silvery Blue is found by Peter Catt who has also developed 'Lacey Blue'. Silvery Blue can best be placed in full sun but can also be planted in the semi-shade. A well drained soil is necessary for each Perovskia. Blooms from summer to autumn with beautiful blue flowers that even spread a fine scent. Silvery Blue is suitable for the perennial border, rock garden, heather garden and a combined container.

Russian Sage is a perennial with an exceptionally long season of interest. This compact selection forms a bushy upright clump of fragrant, metallic, silver leaves bearing copious spikes of lavender-blue flowers from mid-summer on. Excellent for hot, sunny sites, in the garden or in tubs. Prune back to no less than 6 inches in the spring, and never in the fall. Exceptionally drought tolerant. USPPP: unlicensed propagation prohibited.

Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Silvery Blue' is a superb plant for garden borders. It has aromatic, shimmering silvery stems that are covered in lavender blue flowers. It is a versatile and hardy shrub that can tolerate drought and exposed coastal positions, making it the perfect plant for gardens near the seaside. Russian Sage is best planted in large swathes, for a bloc of purple colour in the garden. This can be in a wide border, or down the sides of garden drives and paths.
