Stem closely tufted, commonly 7 - 15 cm long, dark green, to 3 mm thick. Leaf almost terete, broadly grooved on one side, extending the line of the stem 2 - 4 cm beyond the apparently lateral inflorescence. Flowers appearing singly on very short stalk from a tuft of small chaffy bracts. Flowers small, yellow or dull red-purple with yellow lip, not widely opening. Dorsal sepal less than 3 mm long, 1 mm wide, tips curved backwards. Lateral sepals forming a hairy mentum 1.5 mm long, their inner edges joined in front of in mentum. Petal about 2 by 1 mm, tips acute. Lips narrow at the base with 2 raised lines, reddish, apical part fleshy, yellow, blunt, 1.5 mm wide, the whole 3.5 mm long. Column stelids rathers short and broad.
In sumatra a fairly common epiphyte in both lowlands and mountains.
This species is variable in thickness of the stems and perhaps also in the position of the mentum, which may be alomost in contact with the ovary or at right angle to it. Young plant may have additional short green leaves at the base of a stem in place of some of the usual brown sheats.(Gunnar Seidenfaden, The orchids of peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, page 310-311).
