Pentagonia macrophylla is a species of flowering plant in the family Rubiaceae, native from south-eastern Nicaragua to Ecuador. It was first described by George Bentham in 1844.

Pentagonia macrophylla is an evergreen shrub or a tree; it usually grows up to 7 metres tall, with reports of trees sometimes reaching 16 metres

 The tree is often unbranched, with a crown of leaves at the top - looking somewhat like a single-stemmed palm tree

The plant is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use as a food.
