General Information

Piper fragile is an evergreen, scrambling shrub that creeps over the ground or climbs into nearby plants for support.
The plant is sometimes harvested from the wild for local medicinal use.

Range

Southeast Asia - Indonesia, the Philippines, New Guinea.

Habitat

On rocks near the sea, in thickets, and in forests at low elevations

Similar to P. Abbreviatum.
A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required.

The bitter, fragile bark is used in the treatment of yaws.
