A medium, much branched shrub rarely more than 3 m tall with grayish, pinnate foliage and attractive, mallow-like, purple, pinkish or cream-colored flowers with yellow anthers. It is native to dry scrubland in central Mexico on rocky slopes and gullies and will make a nice, drought tolerant ornamental for warm temperate regions.
