General Information

Trees or erect or ascending shrubs. Leaves paripinnate or imparipinnate; leaflets numerous, opposite; stipules lanceolate, deciduous or persistent; stipels minute. Flowers medium-sized, in axillary fascicles or racemes, the bracts minute, persistent; calyx tubular to bellshaped, truncate or bilobed; corolla pink, red, or purple, the standard rounded to kidney-shaped, slightly notched at apex, clawed and auriculate at base, shorter than the keel petals, the wings and keel clawed, of similar length; stamens 10, diadelphous, of unequal length; ovary stipitate, with several ovules, the style glabrous and incurved, the stigma punctiform. Legume flattened, linear, with thickened margins, beaked at apex, dehiscent; seeds several, flattened, ovate.
